New from 30 October 2011: three flights a day Frankfurt—Aberdeen

Foto: LufthansaWith the introduction of the winter 2011/12 timetable, Lufthansa will be expanding its services to the UK with a new destination: Aberdeen. The most important city in the north of Scotland will in future be served by three non-stop flights a day from Frankfurt. Thanks to favourable departure and arrival times, the flights will be of interest to business travellers in particular: Lufthansa will operate flights mornings, afternoons and late evenings to this Scottish port using modern Embraer 190 aircraft fitted with Business and Economy Class. Since the discovery of significant oil deposits in the North Sea, Aberdeen has become one of the most important oil centres in Europe.

Yet Aberdeen is also an important holiday destination. Situated on the edge of the Highlands, the city is a magnet for nature lovers. A rugged coastline, impressive mountain scenery, a long golden beach and extensive golf courses invite visitors to relax and leave their cares behind.

From winter 2011: Lufthansa now flies from Frankfurt to London-Gatwick

Foto: LufthansaLufthansa passengers travelling to London from 30 October 2011 may now look forward to a larger selection of connections and thus more flexibility. With the new Lufthansa winter schedule you will in future, besides London-Heathrow and London-City, also be able to fly to London-Gatwick, as the third destination in the Capital.

Lufthansa will fly twice a day from Frankfurt to the second largest airport in the metropolis. Gatwick is connected to the centre e.g. Victoria station via frequently operating express trains and is therefore a perfect starting point.

London-Gatwick is the eighth Lufthansa destination in Great Britain. Besides the three London airports there are flights to Aberdeen, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Manchester and Newcastle.

New Lufthansa service trolleys reduce fuel burn

Foto: LufthansaAlmost 30,000 new service trolleys will be taken into service on Lufthansa flights over the next three years. Lufthansa has already begun to replace its previous trolley equipment with the new Quantum Light Weight Trolley. The new model will especially have a positive ecological impact. The introduction of the Quantum trolley, which is one third lighter than its predecessor, will save about 9,000 tonnes of kerosene and 28,350 tonnes of CO2 annually.

The new service trolleys will be introduced gradually until mid-2014 on all Lufthansa’s long-haul intercontinental flights.

From 1 June 2011: Lufthansa simplifies the rules for free baggage allowance

Foto: LufthansaFor ticket purchases from 1 June 2011 onwards, new rules will apply to the free baggage allowance on Lufthansa flights. These rules will be consistent worldwide. The amount of baggage permitted will be determined by the service class booked and Miles & More status (where applicable):

  • Economy Class passengers are allowed one bag weighing up to 23 kg
  • Business Class passengers are allowed two bags each weighing up to 32 kg
  • First Class passengers may travel with three bags each weighing up to 32 kg

Additionally, all passengers will in future have the option of taking one sports bag (categorised as ‘small’) with them as part of their valid free baggage allowance.

What is more, they may also take one bag containing ski equipment (this does not apply on North Atlantic routes).

Special exceptions apply to Japan and West, East and Central Africa (two bags up to 23 kg free of charge in Economy Class) and for journeys which start in Brazil (two bags up to 32 kg free of charge in Economy Class).

Moreover, Miles & More status customers can enjoy an extra free baggage allowance:

  • Frequent Travellers in Economy Class can take two bags with them
  • Senators and HON Circle Members are entitled to an additional suitcase and a golf bag in any service class (this does not apply on North Atlantic routes)

Example: if a Senator is travelling in Lufthansa Business Class within Europe, he can check in three suitcases, one ski bag and one golf bag free of charge.

These new rules for free baggage allowance will apply to tickets issued with effect from 1 June 2011. If the ticket was issued at an earlier date, the old rules still apply.

Naturally passengers can, as previously, take extra baggage with them on payment of an excess baggage charge.

The amount of baggage each passenger can take with them free of charge is shown on their ticket or Passenger Receipt.
