Iberia commissions new Airbus A-340/600 on Madrid - Buenos Aires Flight

Iberia took delivery of a new Airbus A-340/600 to fly its long-haul routes to Latin America, the United States, and South Africa, which went into service on a flight from Madrid to Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The new aircraft, registered as EC-JNQ, brings to 29 the total number of A-340s flown by the Spanish airline. Of this total, eleven are A-340-600s, and two more are to be added in the course of the year, as Iberia continues with its fleet replacement programme, substituting older aircraft with the latest generation of high-performance airplanes that are more fuel-efficient, quieter, and cleaner.

The new Iberia Airbus was named the “Antonio Machado”, to honour the renowned Spanish poet who wrote such volumes as Soledades, galerías y otros poemas, Campos de Castilla and Nuevas canciones, among others.

The new Airbus A340/600, which can carry 352 passengers, came equipped with Iberia’s new Business Plus section, designed for business travellers on long flights. It boasts unique new seats that unfold into totally flat beds inside a rigid outer pod to ensure privacy. The new seats also have an adaptable double back cushion with a special massage function, along with a head rest, fold-down arm rests and an extendible leg rest. The seats are equipped with an easy-to-use programming system that can memorise the passenger’s preferred position.

Business Plus travellers can also use individual touch-screens for access to the most modern in-flight communication and entertainment systems, with which they can send and receive e-mail or short cell phone messages in less than 15 seconds, and enjoy a wide selection of music, films, documentaries, and even interactive games on 12 audio and 26 video channels. On a large public screen they may also watch real-time images taken from a camera installed on the tail of the aircraft. Top
